Management of IBS

It is a site relating to knowing your health and diagnosing diseases from your symptoms.

Irritable bowel syndrome is a condition that is really irritable to everyone causing abdominal discomfort to most of the person affected with the condition. So, it is required to be managed properly so that one can minimise his / her level of discomfort. Now let me discuss the ways of managing IBS.

If you have diarrhoea, you have to go for stool examination to find out TSH and faecal fats. But for younger patients with previous history, the diagnoses process may need few more test including the former and those includes FBC, ESR, LFTs & urinalysis. It would be better to go for rectal biopsy and sigmoidoscopy.

If there is dyspepsia and reflux, the patient may require endoscopy of the upper gastrointestinal tract.

There are a number of diagnostic methods but I won't suggest to go for them immediately without referring a physician.

Spastic Colon

It is a site relating to knowing your health and diagnosing diseases from your symptoms.

Spastic Colon is synonymous to IBS or we can simply say that Spastic Colon is another name for Irritable Bowel Syndrome. The term spastic colon is related to the contraction of the muscles of the bowel which is spontaneous. As there is frequent bowel movement associated with IBS, the condition may be termed as Spastic Colon. But, sometimes the IBS may not show spontaneous contraction of the bowel muscles and so the term spastic colon may not be appropriate all the time to describe IBS. Spastic Colon mainly affects the colon

Symptoms of Spastic Colon:
Symptoms includes diarrhoea, constipation,(or alternating diarrhoea / constipation) lower abdominal pain or discomfort, bloating, gas, intestinal cramping, and nausea. The pain may be mild to excruciation and may be continuous or recurrent.

Remember: Spastic Colon i not a disease but a functional disorder, meaning, the bowel does not work as it should work normally.

(NOTE: Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a condition which commonly develops in the young adults and teenagers. Yet, it may affect people of any age.)

Irritable Bowel Syndrome or commonly known as IBS among the Medical Professionals is one of the most common disorders that people across the globe complains about. It is a heterogenous group of abdominal symptoms for which no organic cause can be found. IBS is the common functional disorder of the GUT. It is a long standing (chronic) disorder which affects the digestive system, especially the intestines. Most of the causes may be because of the disorders of Intestinal Motility. The IBS covers a varied number of diseases causing intestinal discomfort.

Signs and Symptoms:
It causes abdominal pain, diarrhoea, and constipation leading to discomfort. Pain is not static and it may be intense and last for a while and go or it may come time and again. There is no fixed period for the repeatation of pain and it may come at irregular intervals. There may be an urge for bowel movements with a feeling of incomplete ecacuation (tenesmus) with a feeling of repeat movements. There may be bloating or distention of the abdoment, while in some other patients there may be severe constipations. The symptoms may vary from person to person. Similarly, the consistancy of the stool may vary to a great level from small & pellet like to watery or even there may be flakes of mucus along with the stool at times.

The symptoms may last for a longer duration or it may go in a short while. There are some associated symptoms too in this condition (IBS) which includes headache, nausea, tiredness, heartburn, irritable bladder, backache, muscle pain, belching, poor appetite, feeling quickly full after eating, and a feeling of discomfort most of the times.

This site is specially designed to help those who wants to know there health status. I am trying to cover the common ailments of people which needs immediate attention. More importance is given on diagnosis portion of the disease condition from the signs and symptoms of the disease. Treatment and other aspects are not covered descriptively just because, it is always better to visit a Physician for health benefits rather than going for self medication, which is always considered dangerous.

I am starting to build up the site referring to various books and compiling them precisely to save your time giving you a brief concept about the disease condition that you might be undergoing. Your suggestions to improve the site will be highly appreciated. So, never hesitate to give me your feedback.
