Spastic Colon

Spastic Colon is synonymous to IBS or we can simply say that Spastic Colon is another name for Irritable Bowel Syndrome. The term spastic colon is related to the contraction of the muscles of the bowel which is spontaneous. As there is frequent bowel movement associated with IBS, the condition may be termed as Spastic Colon. But, sometimes the IBS may not show spontaneous contraction of the bowel muscles and so the term spastic colon may not be appropriate all the time to describe IBS. Symptoms of Spastic Colon:
Symptoms includes diarrhoea, constipation,(or alternating diarrhoea / constipation) lower abdominal pain or discomfort, bloating, gas, intestinal cramping, and nausea. The pain may be mild to excruciation and may be continuous or recurrent.
